Syria’s FM Holds Riyadh Meeting with US Envoy Tom Barrack
The meeting occurred on the sidelines of a gathering of political directors from the US-led international coalition against ISIS (Daesh), the ministry said on the social media platform X. No further details were provided regarding the discussions.
Shaibani and Syria’s intelligence chief, Hussein al-Salama, had arrived in Riyadh on Sunday to participate in the coalition meeting. Syria officially joined the anti-ISIS coalition last November.
While the coalition, established in 2014, has carried out military operations against ISIS in Syria and Iraq, Damascus had not previously been a member.
Reports indicate that the new Syrian administration has been working to strengthen security nationwide following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024.
