Iran, Saudi Arabia Hold Talks on US–Iran Talks Mediated by Pakistan
(MENAFN) Iran and Saudi Arabia hold phone talks on Monday focusing on the latest developments in the Pakistan-mediated diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington, according to reports.
Iranian news agency reports that Abbas Araghchi and Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud speak for the second time within 24 hours, highlighting intensified diplomatic communication between the two regional powers.
According to reports, the call takes place against the backdrop of heightened regional tensions that escalate after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. The strikes trigger retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israel and US-aligned Gulf partners, alongside disruptions involving the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire comes into effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but subsequent talks held in Islamabad fail to produce a lasting agreement. The truce is later extended by US President Donald Trump without a fixed deadline.
According to reports, Iran submits its response to a US proposal for ending the conflict via Pakistan on Sunday, but Trump dismisses the response as “totally unacceptable,” further complicating diplomatic efforts as regional negotiations continue.
