Iraq to Take Action If Territory Used in Attacks on Saudi Arabia, UAE

(MENAFN) Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi on Wednesday ordered authorities to take firm action against any individuals or groups found responsible if investigations confirm that Iraqi territory was used to launch attacks against Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The directive was issued during al-Zaidi’s leadership of the first session of the Iraqi National Security Council, according to statements cited by reports from Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

The remarks followed a call from the UAE’s Foreign Ministry urging Iraq to act “urgently and unconditionally” to stop “all hostile acts” originating from Iraqi soil.

According to al-Numan, al-Zaidi stressed Baghdad’s rejection of using Iraqi land or airspace as a platform for attacks targeting Arab and regional countries, emphasizing that the government would deal seriously with the issue.

During the meeting, the National Security Council also renewed its condemnation of the recent strikes aimed at Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

“The meeting addressed the ongoing investigations into the attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and the UAE. A special committee was formed to engage with relevant authorities in both countries,” said Al-Numan.

He further stated: “The government will not tolerate any individual or group that seeks to threaten the security of Iraq or its brothers and the countries of the region and is committed to taking the necessary measures to protect the country's stability and preserve its sovereignty.”
