Iran's FM Holds Emergency Talks with World Powers
An Iranian news agency reported that Araghchi first spoke with Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir shortly after Iran launched multiple missile strikes toward northern Israel, triggered by an Israeli airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs that left at least two dead and 11 injured.
The news agency further confirmed separate calls were made with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. Discussions centered on escalating regional developments and Iran's justification for its military response.
Iran's Foreign Ministry added that Araghchi also contacted Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al Saud, with both ministers addressing Iranian armed forces' actions in response to what Tehran characterized as violations of the April 8 ceasefire agreement and continued Israeli operations against Lebanon.
The missile attack marked Iran's first such bombardment since the fragile ceasefire came into force. That agreement had been brokered through Pakistani mediation on April 8, though negotiations subsequently stalled over implementation disputes and broader regional tensions.
Pakistan has assumed a key mediating role between Tehran and Washington since hostilities between Iran and the United States erupted on Feb. 28.
